2012 (Pilot Project)

SIDance Ottawa Performance

In anticipation of the 50th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Korea and Canada, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to Canada invited teams from the Seoul International Dance Festival (SIDance) led by Director Jong Ho Lee for the “Korea Focus” Ottawa Dance performance on November 19th, 2012, at the Canadian Museum of Civilization.

Coming from their participation in the 2012 CINARS Biennale in Montreal, the teams were comprised of:

1.    Miyeon & PARK Jechun with choreographer BAE Yuri

2.    JANG Eun-jung Dance Company

3.    KIM Sun-Hee Ballet Company

First of its kind in Ottawa, the teams introduced to the Ottawa crowd, original sounds comprised of Jazz and Classic mixed with the traditional music of Korea, Contemporary dance, and traditional ballet fusing with traditional Korean stories and cultural aspects.

The excellence of contemporary Korean dance was well-received by the some 500 guests, comprised of many dignitaries including Ambassadors and Foreign Diplomats from 12 different countries, officials from the Canadian government, and art lovers across the city.
