For anyone who lives in the Ottawa area, you’ll know that there is a lack of Korean food in the city. One place that does an excellent job of capturing the authenticity of Korean food is a restaurant called, “Miga.” It’s located at 399 Bank Street, across from the Staples. I’ve been to Miga twice and had great experiences both times. Like many Korean restaurants in Canada, they offer a listing of Japanese items on their menu, but I focussed on the Korean food.
The first time I went I had the dolsot bulgogi (돌솥 불고기) and a ton of kimchi. It was piping hot and tasted very authentic. The kmichi itself is amazing and has just the right amount of spiciness. The soju (소주) helped cool down anything that was too spicy. For my second visit I ordered one of the most famous Korean dishes, dolsot bibimbap (돌솥 비빔밥). It was perfectly made, identical to how it is done in every part of Korea I’ve been to. As for the service, it was great. One waitress didn’t even seem to get too annoyed by my relentless questions about a kind of Korean food that I couldn’t remember the name of. I’m not saying she wasn’t annoyed, she just didn’t show it.
I fully intend on visiting Miga several times in the future. I suggest you do as well. I also plan on visiting the other Korean restaurants in the city to compare. Hopefully they are just as good!
