1.  2013 has been declared as ‘the Year of the Korean War Veteran’ and ‘the Year of Korea’ in recognition of the 60th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice and the 50th anniversary of Korea Canada diplomatic relations. In commemoration of the double milestones, two Republic of Korea (ROK) Navy Vessels (destroyer ‘ROKS Dae Jo Yeong’ and logistical support ship ‘ROKS Hwa-Cheon) will visit Port of Old Montreal from Oct 13th to Oct 16th. This marks the first visit of ROK Navy in Montreal.

2.  The South Korean Cruise Training Task Group will commemorate the fallen Canadian soldiers in Korean War as they look to enhance Korea-Canada friendship through many events including military parades and cultural performances in an effort to promote mutual understanding between the two countries.

3.  During their visit, the Cruise Training Task Group 2013 will hold various events for the public and for the Koreans living in Canada such as public tours of the ships, Tae Kwon Do demonstrations, military band performances, Honor Guard ceremonies. ‘Onboard luncheon’ (Oct 13th 12:00-1330) and ‘Onboard reception’ (Oct 15th 18:00-20:00) will also be held for the public.

4.  Under the command of Admiral Jang Soo-hong, approximately 630 personnel are participating in this visit, including 141 midshipmen, supporting staffs, the Navy Band, and the Honor Guard.

5.  On Oct 16th 2013, at 9:00 am, Lieutenant Louis-Phillipe Trudel from the Royal Canadian Navy will join the cruise training task group departing from Montreal to its next destination, Baltimore, USA, in further advancing bilateral relations and military cooperation.
