If you take a stroll along Roncesvalles Avenue in Toronto, predominantly known for its mixture of European delis and hipster cafés, you may be surprised to see this giant Kimchi thumb.
Take a step back to reveal Greenfield’s Organic Bulk Food shop boasting the ‘self-proclaimed’ best kimchi in Toronto. Hmm, we’ll have to see about that…
Straight at the back of the store, keeping cool in the centre fridge, you’ll find a few containers of the tasty looking kimchi. What makes it the ‘self-proclaimed’ best? According to Greenfield’s shop owner Richard, his Aunt has perfected their long family tradition of kimchi making perfection. Her grandmother used to make kimchi for Gangnam’s high society so she has many secrets, but we’ll just share two of the edible ones…
Secret ingredient # 1: Pink-hued, low sodium Mediterranean sea salt.
Secret ingredient #2: Sun-dried Moroccan hot pepper powder.
Result: Delicious. Greenfield’s in-house kimchi has a fresher and lighter feel to it, the Moroccan hot pepper gives it a unique citrus overtone which leaves a distinctive bite on the tongue, and there’s a good crunch in every bite. A big gigantic thumb up for this kimchi.
Most important ingredient: Family love. Richard Chang, his mom Moon-Soon, and his Aunt – kimchi maker extraordinaire – Chun-Kyung Park.

Hello There. I found your blog using msn.
This is a very well written article. I will be sure to bookmark it and come back to read more of your useful info.
Thanks for the post. I will certainly return.
The kimchi looks great but it is so frustrating that it is sold in plastic containers!
Why buy organic if you’re just going to replace the pesticide chemicals with plastic chemicals that leach into your food!
I have enjoyed this Kimchi for 3 years and visited this shop once a week. I have very serious MSG allergy but I don’t feel any symptom about this shop’s Kimchi. It’s very recommendable Kimchi.
I agree, Its so good! I buy three cases at once. Too bad they dont have a facebook page to like though!
