Chris Wondolowski scored two goals during the fourth and 60th minutes against South Korea to win their first game of 2014.

On Saturday, South Korea played a friendly against the U.S. to prepare for the FIFA World Cup taking place in Brazil this summer. The match took place in Carson, California to a sold out crowd of 27,000 fans.

South Korea had five shots on goal, but could not get past American keeper, Nick Rimando. Arguably, on a corner kick from Jong-Woo Park, Matt Besler flicked the ball into the net with Rimando catching the ball possibly past the goal line. Replay footage was reviewed, but the verdict was inconclusive. The U.S. went on to win 2-0.

Hong Myung-Bo, a former Los Angeles Galaxy player, was head coach for South Korea, and was happy with the end result even though it ended with a loss.

“We were in a very difficult situation, but I’m happy with our players,” Hong said reflecting on South Korea’s performance. “They did their best.”

The next upcoming matches for South Korea will be against Greece in March, Australia in May, and Canada in June at Olympic Stadium in Montreal, Quebec.

South Korea is in Group H for the FIFA World Cup, which includes Belgium, Russia, and Algeria. Their first game will take place on June 17th at 18:00.
