Shopping in Seoul is definitely a huge delight for some shopping lovers here as the city has many attractive shopping areas, markets and malls throughout the city. Most of the famous shopping areas are located in downtown Seoul, but where to begin? Here are some of my all time favourites!
Myeong-dong (명동) is one of the main and popular shopping districts in Seoul, South Korea. It’s arguably one of the most expensive shopping districts in the world, as it features a variety of stores from international outlets, Korean cosmetics brands, small retail stores as well as large shopping centers. Young people and tourists like to go to Myeong-dong because it’s a particularly popular center for fashion and sightseeing. Myeong-dong is what one would call a “complete package” for visitors as it has an absolutely diverse mixture throughout the area including hotels, restaurants, cinemas, historical sites, tourist attractions, etc.
Hongdae (홍대) is an area in Seoul, South Korea near Hongik University (Where the name originally came from). It is best known for its unique urban arts, indie music culture, edgy fashion, clubs and entertainments. It’s also a home to many independent clothing/accessory stores, vintage shops, restaurants, bookstores and many more! Even though, some of the shops are mostly in the medium to high price range, it’s worth it due to the distinctive style of the items. Just hop over to Hongdae if you want something new, unique and inimitable!
Gangnam Station (강남역)
Gangnam Station (강남역) is a subway station in Gangnam, but it’s also another all time favourite shopping spot in Seoul. There are lots of small independent stores and Korean makeup shops for those looking for some beauty items. Gangnam Station is clearly a perfect place if you are looking for something new and trendy, but in the low price range at the same time.
Insa-dong (인사동) is a very popular place to a lot of tourists and even to local Koreans as the historical past and the present of Korea are harmonized together, but it’s also one of the best shopping area for antiques, traditional souvenirs and Korean products located in Seoul. Insa-dong also features several performances and entertainments around the area that you might enjoy! You should definitely visit Insa-dong if you are interested in traditional Korean products, traditional Korean foods, Korean souvenirs, antiques, sculptures and various art works.
Itaewon (이태원) is also one of the most popular and beloved areas in Seoul for tourists, because there are dozens of hotels, services, restaurants serving international dishes as well as local, clubs, bars and shops. Itaewon is very popular for variety of fashion goods such as handbags, shoes, jewelries, clothes, etc. You can surely find many great selections in Itaewon in different price range. Various nationalities in this area absolutely show that Itaewon is a global village!
Dongdaemun Market (동대문종합시장)
Dongdaemun Market (동대문종합시장) is a large district that consists of traditional stores and shopping centers in Seoul. It’s a very beloved shopping and tourist destination, as this place is most popular for fashion products, primarily clothes, bags, jewelry, accessories and shoes. Great prices can be found in Dongdaemun, but you can still find your way to a better deal! If you are in the mood for some late night shopping, Dongdaemun is the best answer! The best part of the whole Dongdaemun market is that the street vendors start opening their shops around 9 p.m. or 10 p.m. and you can literally shop until the sun rises with some loud music!
Apgujeong-dong (압구정동) the “Beverly Hills” of Seoul is a luxury fashion mecca! It is best known for its Rodeo Street which is a street for many famous luxury brands, fashionable, upscale shopping and the latest high-end fashions. There are also lots of small retail stores, shops of local and international designers, but there are still plenty of more shopping options for all price ranges too. Apgujeong-dong is absolutely where new trends and culture can be experienced.
Edae (이대) is a famous shopping area for young women with the latest fashions. There are a variety of shops from clothing stores, accessory stores, shoes store, restaurants, cafes, etc.. Edae can refer to the university itself (Ewha Women’s University / 이화여자대학교), but for now we are talking about Edae as a shopping area! It is located between the Ewha Train Station and Ewha Women’s University. There is a different price range, it is mostly for girls so it’s quite cheap. Therefore, if you want to be up-to-date with the latest feminine fashion, you can head over to Edae and shop what you need with quite cheap prices.
Therefore, if you are visiting Korea, I hope you have an amazing experience while shopping around Seoul! 👗👚
