“Hidden” Korean Restaurants in Calgary

This post is in collaboration with another fellow Calgarian KCB writer Kelsey.

Calgary is home to many different Korean restaurants. If you are new to Calgary or want to find some unique Korean restaurants in Calgary – here are some of the “hidden” Korean Restaurants that you should try! P.S Kelsey and I can surely recommend these restaurants as both Kelsey and/or I had a fun time eating at and trying out these restaurants.

San Dong Banjeom

3803 26 Ave SW, Calgary, AB T3E 6L6

San Dong Banjeom is an excellent Korean-Chinese cuisine restaurant tucked at the end of a corner strip mall. It’s easy to settle into the cozy interior with a cup of hot tea and the warm hospitality of the staff, and you can find all of the classic dishes you might expect – including tangsuyuk (sweet and sour fried pork) and jjamppong (seafood soup) – on the menu. Be sure not to miss the highlight: their best-selling jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles)!

Han Corea

Han Corea is located in the same building as the Calgary Korean Association. Han Corea is a fairly small restaurant and can get pretty busy during dinner time. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a “ma and pa” restaurant you can find in Korea. They serve a variety of dishes such as guk and jjigae (soups and stews), jeongol (hotpot), bokkeum (stir-fried dishes), bulgogi (thinly sliced meat) and more.

Here are some of the dishes we tried at Han Corea! The portion sizes are pretty big, so you’ll be extremely full when leaving!

Don Day is located close to 8th Street Station, which can be convenient when taking public transportation. Don Day is another fairly small restaurant that gives an atmosphere of an indoor pojangmacha with its dim lights and metal round tables. They serve a variety of dishes such as guk and jjigae (soups and stews), jeongol (hotpot), BBQ and more.

I personally love and highly recommend to order the samgyupsal (BBQ pork belly), as it’s thick cut and seasoned with herbs!

In addition, they are open till 2 am on Fridays and Saturdays, making Don Day a great spot for a night out on the weekend!

Here concludes some of the “hidden” Korean restaurants in Calgary! What are some of your “hidden” Korean restaurants that you would recommend?
