Hello, 안녕하세요, I’m back with issue 07 of ‘The Attic Playlist’! My name is Jiwon, and ‘The Attic Playlist’ is a series I have designed to introduce songs by musicians who are less popular to foreign listeners yet definitely worthy of recognition. In each issue, I will introduce five songs by different musicians. For every song, I will provide the full lyrics in Korean. Then, I will pick out a few lines from the lyrics that capture the mood of the song and provide a translation of them, so non-Korean speakers can also enjoy the meaning of them.
‘The Attic Playlist’ will be published once every two weeks.
This week’s theme
May is family month in Korea. May 5th is Children’s Day, 8th is Parents’ Day, 15th is Teacher’s Day, and 21st is Married Couple’s Day. These are days for us to remember to appreciate the people around us. We all work day and night for ourselves and for our loved ones, and sometimes a weekend getaway is needed to refresh our mind and body. Although weekends are only two days away from work, these songs sing about how the short rest can be very refreshing.
This week’s playlist
1. 도로시밴드(Dorothy Band) – 소풍(Picnic)
2. 모이다밴드(Moida Band) – Chocolate Drive
3. 권순관(Kwon Soon-Kwan) – 긴 여행을 떠나요(Let’s Go on a Long Journey)
4. 소요(Soyo) – 그저 그런 오후(A So-So Afternoon)
5. 허민(Hermin) – 고양이버스(Cat Bus)
I hope you have enjoyed the playlist, and feel free to comment below if you have any questions or concerns about my translation. I would also appreciate words of encouragement! All the Korean lyrics are from Naver Music, and all the videos are from Youtube.
