My name is Emma – a.k.a. “emmamcorso” – and I’m so excited to be a part of the Korea-Canada Blog team this year! Before we delve into more complex topics, I figure we should start the year off right…with a post about me.
So, without further ado, let’s get to know each other.
WHO ARE YOU ANYWAY?
I’m currently an undergraduate student at McGill University in Montréal, but I was born and raised in the suburbs of Toronto, Ontario. Even though I’ve only lived in Québec for six months, I think I can safely consider it my home – I immediately fell in love with this city, and I’m looking forward to being able to show you all it has to offer as a developing hub of East Asian culture. I’m currently finishing up my first year of school so I’m still undeclared, but I plan on pursuing a Joint Honours degree in East Asian Studies (with a focus on Korea) and Anthropology.
I’ve been a passionate writer for as long as I can remember, and I enjoy every part of the process. I’ve also dabbled in pretty much every genre – poetry, songs, short stories, essays, and everything in between. In my experience, any good writer also shares an interest in literature, and I’m no exception: next on my to-read list is The Vegetarian (채식주의자) by Han Kang. If any of you have read the novel and would like to discuss it, please let me know!
Aside from the written word, I enjoy traveling, listening to music, taking photos and practicing graphic design. Here are a few photos that I took to give you a quick snapshot of my current day-to-day.
SO WHAT’S THE PLAN?
I have a lot of diverse topics scheduled for the rest of 2017, but most of my posts will likely be focused on the Korean beauty industry and cultural events happening in and around Montréal, including those hosted by the Korean Cultural Centre. I want to provide some insight into the effectiveness and recent popularity of Korean makeup/skincare trends, and will hopefully be able to share some of the amazing representation of Korean culture that exists here in Québec.
If anything, my goal this year is to diversify the use of media on the Korea-Canada blog. Expect collections of images and/or video excerpts to be a part of most – if not all – of my monthly posts. As we move throughout the year I would also appreciate some feedback on this combined style of blogging/vlogging, so as to improve it and make the most of our time together!
Please don’t hesitate to share any thoughts/commentary below.
That about sums me up, but feel free to introduce yourselves in the comments. I’d love to get to know you, too!
